Pirate ships, treasure islands, and sea battles at KockaPark
“Set sail! Off to find the treasure!” – In the world of LEGO Pirates, everything is about adventure, discovery, and imagination. At Campona KockaPark, a massive, intricately detailed diorama brings classic LEGO pirate stories to life: ships sail the seas, cannons at coastal forts roar, mysterious islands hide buried treasure, and daily life bustles in the harbors.
This exhibition is not just a LEGO display—it’s a journey back in time to the golden age of LEGO Pirates, where old and new sets, as well as unique creations (MOCs), come together on a stunning, ever-expanding diorama.
A Brief History of LEGO Pirates
The LEGO Pirates theme was first released in 1989 and immediately won the hearts of children and collectors alike. The main characters in the sets are:
- pirates who sail the seas in search of treasure,
- the soldiers of the Imperial Guards, who are trying to maintain order,
- and the indigenous tribes who defend their own islands.
What makes LEGO Pirates unique is that it featured both land-based and sea-based adventures: ships, forts, harbors, islands, and treasure caves became the setting for the games. After the classic period from 1989 to 1997, the theme returned several times with new sets, including the 2015 reissues and sets inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
Interesting Things to Look For
When you're looking at the diorama in person, pay attention to the following:
- Interactive details —movable cannons, treasure chests that open, and removable ship decks
- Live scenes —encounters between pirates and soldiers, tribal rituals, the hustle and bustle of the market
- Natural elements – erupting volcano, jungle, island trails
- Classic and modern elements – Figures from 1989, reissues from 2015, and completely unique MOC creations
KockaPark's LEGO Pirates diorama
Three worlds in one
The LEGO Pirates diorama on display at KockaPark is divided into three main sections, each of which is impressive on its own, but together they tell a vast, richly detailed story.
Behind every detail lies the work of talented Hungarian builders.
A City with a Harbor – Róbert Borda
One of the central elements of the diorama is a port city located on an island, divided in the middle by a canal. At the center of the scene:
- two bridges that connect the different parts of the city,
- the tower guarding the entrance from the sea,
- the waterfront, where there's always a buzz of activity.
The town’s houses were converted from an earlier structure—the 2014 Hobbit Lake-town —and gradually took on their current form. The lower levels were given colorful brick facades, giving the houses an atmosphere reminiscent of small medieval towns.
Everyday Life in the Port City:
- Local markets supply the residents in red uniforms with fresh bread, baked goods, and fruit,
- The Imperial Armada's flagship is just docking at the bridge,
- Sailors in blue uniforms come ashore and mingle with the townspeople.
Featured ships in this scene:
- 10210 Imperial Flagship – one of the most iconic LEGO sailboats
- 4195 Queen Anne’s Revenge – Jack Sparrow’s legendary ship, in a slightly modified version
Pirate Ships on the High Seas – Ákos Antal
A special diorama section by Ákos Antal takes visitors out onto the open sea, where custom-built ships cut through the waves.
Notable ship:
Black Pearl – Jack Sparrow’s ship, which, according to legend, Davy Jones brought back from the depths of the sea. Under the terms of the deal, Jack must serve 100 years on Jones’s ship after 13 years have passed.
Every little detail on board the ships has been carefully crafted:
- helmsman's station, cannons, rigging,
- the daily life of sailors,
- cannon emplacements ready for battle.
King Kahuka's Treasure Shrine – Péter Bíró
This custom-built island is based on the “Natives” subtheme of the classic LEGO Pirates theme (1989–1996). The main character is King Kahuka, who first appeared as a LEGO minifigure in 1994.
Characteristics of the island:
- On the right is the indigenous village, where daily life goes on,
- A dense forest and a stream divide the area in two,
- Hidden among the mountains lies the sanctuary where the treasures are kept.
According to the story, the pirates cut through the jungle to get the treasure, unaware that lookouts were watching them from behind the trees. In the background, the volcano is erupting, adding a dramatic atmosphere to the scene.
Why is it worth seeing in person?
The photos and videos are spectacular, but the personal experience is unbeatable!
The meticulously crafted details of the city and the island—the tiny market stalls, the colorful house walls, the paths hidden in the jungle—take on a whole new dimension when viewed up close. The imposing size of the ships, the intricately crafted rigging, the working cannons, and the scenes of life on deck are even more spectacular in person. The three scenes, each with its own distinct atmosphere and style, come together as a harmonious whole, revealing a complete LEGO Pirates world where every detail is interconnected, collectively telling a grand pirate tale.
